PSC Organisation Chart:
The Tanzania Public Service Commission is an Independent
Department in the President’s Office established under
section 9(1) of the Public Service Act No. 8 of 2002 as amended by Public service Act No.18 of 2007. The
Commission officially came into effect on 7th January, 2004
after the then President of the United Republic of Tanzania
his Excellency Benjamin William Mkapa had appointed top
officials of the Commission, namely, the Chairman, Commissioners,
Secretary and Deputy Secretaries.
Currently, the Chairman, Commissioners
and Secretary are as follows: -
1. Mr. Jovin B. Kitambi - Chairman
2. Mr. Daud Mfwangavo - Commissioner
3. Dr. Gabriel L. Upunda - Commissioner
4. Mrs. Cecilia Shirima - Commissioner
5. Mr. Edriss R. Mavura - Commissioner
6. Mr. Mgeni M. Ali - Commissioner
7. Mr. Donald S. B. Ndagula - Acting Secretary.
According to Section 15(1) of the Public Service Act No.
8 of 2002, the Commission has the following five Departments
headed by Deputy Secretaries:
- The Civil Service Department (CSD).
- The Teachers’ Service Department (TSD).
- The Local Government Service Department (LGSD).
- The Immigration, Fire and Rescue Service Department
(IFSD).
- The Health Service Department (HSD)
Pursuant to the amendments made by the Act No.18 of 2007 the Commission has four departments. The Department of Immigration, Fire and Rescue Service has been removed from the Commission.
The Commission has also offices (Teachers Service Department) in all regions and districts (Tanzania Mainland).
